Shoshikan
Shoshikan, Tsuzuki branch of the Japan Karate Association, is a karate dojo located in Yokohama, Japan.
Both children and adults work hard during training.

Kihon:Basic training
By repeatedly practicing techniques both on the spot and while moving, you will, not only learn to master basic skills, you will also train to know how to effectively use your body.
Not only will you learn how to precisely attack, for instance by using punching and kicking techniques, but you will also practice blocking techniques with accuracy.

Kata Practice
We mainly focus on basic katas, starting from Heian katas. We practice them repeatedly to master their techniques.
By engaging in continuous offense and defence against an imaginary opponent, you will learn how to use your body more efficiently.

Kumite Training
Focusing on prearranged sparring (yakusoku-kumite), we practice applying the techniques learned in basic and kata trainings against a real opponent.
We will practice the “distance” required to complete a move with one blow (maai), and the “submission” which is a characteristic of karate (kime).

About Shoshikan
Shoshikan was established in 2007 as a volunteer karate club in hope to support children to grow up brightly, energetically and, most importantly, healthily.
At first, we trained in a nearby park under the blue sky as we had no dojo to train in. Over time, the number of children increased. As well as more children coming, the number of supportive parents has also increased.
With the cooperation of the parents, we moved to the martial arts gym of Kawawa Middle School and started proper full-scale karate instructions.
As a result of daily practice, the children’s skills have greatly improved.
On January 2009, we joined JKA Kanagawa of Tsuzuki Branch on as “Shoshikan”. We started having the coloured-obi system and participating in competitions,
“I want the children to both grow up healthily together. I want them to overcome any challenges without ever giving up. I want them to have a strong mind.” I have this in thought at all times while I teach.
The cost of the membership is kept to a minimum to operate the Shoshikan. We are grateful for your understanding and cooperation.
I want to enjoy karate with old and new friends in a loved environment of Shoshikan.
Shoshikan Shihan, Yoshitaka Tanaka
