出会いはインスタグラムの投稿写真
2024年10月27日、船越義珍杯 第16回 世界空手道選手権大会を見に行って来ました。
この試合の時に沢山の写真を撮っていたことが、今回のブラジルと日本のフレンドシップに繋がります。
試合後1日、2日が経ち、私がたまたま見たパウロさんのインスタ投稿写真の中にブラジルの空手家が沢山写っていました。
それを見て思いました。もし、パウロさんに連絡が取れたら僕の写真を見てくれるだろうか？少し不安でしたが、自己紹介を含めて、パウロさんのインスタにメッセージを送りました。
返信があるまでドキドキでした。
でも、その不安は直ぐに解消されました。
パウロさんから「写真を見せてくれてありがとう」の連絡を貰いました！
この返事がとても嬉しかったです。
写真を撮っていて良かったと言う思いと、地球の反対側にいる方と話ができる事に感動しました。
パウロ先生の道場との交流開始
この写真の受け渡しをきっかけで、パウロさんと交流が始まりました。この時パウロさんが空手道場の先生として道場生を教えていることを知りました。そして、パウロ先生から質問が何通か来るようになりました。例えば、空手の動きや日本の雑巾掛けの作法など、沢山の質問がありました。僕も間違った情報を流せないので、言葉だけでなく、動画を撮って作法をパウロ先生に伝えました。
メッセージのやり取りはさらに盛り上がり、パウロ先生が道場で教えている動画や試合の動画をも送ってきてくれました！
しかも、その動画の中には、道場生達と共に形を演武する稽古や、白帯でも組手を稽古している内容などが含まれていました。あらゆる動画を沢山送って貰いました。僕は、その全てとは言いませんが、先生へ直接コメントを送ったり、インスタ、YouTubeにメッセージを残しました。
パウロ先生も僕のコメントに答えてくれ、会話が弾みました！
空手の組手試合では、今の突きが良かったとか、何故審判がパウロ先生の方に旗を振らないのか？とかの話で盛り上がったこともあります。
空手だけでない
パウロ先生は、日々の空手稽古の写真や動画をインスタにあげているとても熱心な空手家です。
ですが、空手ばかりが彼の日常ではありません。トレーニングジムもあり、沢山の生徒に負荷圧トレーニングを教えてます。なので、彼のインスタには、筋肉マッチョな男性や引き締まった身体を持つ女性が沢山写真で写ってます！
さらにもう一つ、私が羨ましいなと思ったのが、彼の家の近くには、とても綺麗なビーチがあり、奥さんとゴールデンレトリバーの犬と一緒にサーフィンに出かけるのです。
ビーチでは仲間と波乗りをしたり、犬と散歩したり、奥さんと一緒に散歩したりと、人生を本当に楽しんでいます。
地球の裏側から遠いブラジルのパウロさんを応援したい
パウロ先生は、地元道場生達のみ稽古をつけているのではなく、なんとボランティア活動で地域外の子供達にも空手を教えているのです。この内容を読んだ田中先生のファンは分かると思いますが、パウロ先生と田中先生の活動はとても似通ったところがあります。僕は田中先生を熱心に応援していますが、パウロ先生も同様にこれからも応援していこうと思っています。もしパウロ先生が気になる方は、以下のリンク先からインスタやYouTubeサイトを見てください。素晴らしい内容の動画や写真があります。

My friend from Brazil, Paulo-Sensei
We met through a photo posted on Instagram
On October 27, 2024, I went to see the 16th Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate Championship.
The fact that I took a lot of photos during this match led to the current friendship between Brazil and Japan.
A day or two after the match, I happened to see a photo posted by Paulo-san on Instagram, and there were a lot of Brazilian Karatekas in it.
When I saw that, I wondered. If I could contact Paulo-san, would he look at my photos? I was a little worried, but I sent a message to Paulo-san’s Instagram, including a self-introduction.
I was nervous until I got a reply.
But that anxiety was quickly resolved.
I received a message from Paulo-san saying, “Thank you for showing me the photos!”
I was very happy to receive this reply.
I was glad that I had taken the photos, and I was moved to be able to talk to someone on the other side of the world.
Started interacting with Paulo Sensei’s dojo
This photo was the trigger for my exchange with Paulo-san. At that time, I learned that Paulo-san was teaching students at a karate dojo as a teacher. Then, Paulo-san started to send me several questions. For example, he had some questions about Karate movements and the Japanese way of mopping. I couldn’t spread incorrect information, so I not only told him the correct way, but also took videos and explained the proper way to Paulo-san.
The exchange of messages became even more lively, and he even sent me videos of Paulo-sensei teaching at the dojo and videos of matches!
Moreover, the videos included training in which he performed Kata with the students, and training Kumite even with white belts. He sent me a lot of videos of all kinds. I won’t say all of them, but I sent comments directly to Paulo-san, left messages on Instagram and YouTube.
Paulo-san also responded to my comments, and we had a lively conversation!
In a karate kumite match, he would say things like, “That Gyakuzuki was good" , or “Why doesn’t the referee wave the flag in Paulo-san’s direction?” We sometimes got excited talking about things like that.
Not just karate
Paulo Sensei is a very enthusiastic karateka who posts photos and videos of his daily karate training on Instagram.
However, Karate is not his only daily life. He also has a training gym where he teaches load-bearing training to many students. That’s why his Instagram is full of photos of muscular men and women with toned bodies!
Another thing I envy is that there is a beautiful beach near his house where he goes surfing with his wife and their golden retriever.
At the beach, he surfs with his friends, walks with his dog, and takes walks with his wife, and he really enjoys life.
I want to support Paulo from Brazil, far away on the other side of the world.
Paulo Sensei does not only train local dojo students, but also volunteers to teach karate to children from outside the area. Fans of Tanaka Sensei will understand that the activities of Paulo Sensei and Tanaka Sensei are very similar. I am a big supporter of Tanaka Sensei, and I will continue to support Paulo Sensei in the same way.
