Kata Practice

We will focus on basic forms, starting with Heian kata, and practice repeatedly while learning the movements of the forms.

By engaging in continuous offense and defense against an imaginary opponent, you will learn how to use your body more efficiently.

Kumite Practice

Focusing on prearranged sparring, we practice applying the techniques learned in basics and kata against a real opponent.

We will practice the “distance” required to complete a move with one blow, and the “submission” that is a characteristic of martial arts karate.

About Shoshikan

Shoshikan was established in 2007 as a volunteer school that taught karate to children, with the hope that it could be of some help to help children live their lives in a cheerful, healthy and relaxed manner.

At first, we didn’t have a dojo and practiced karate with the children under the blue sky in a nearby park, but as the number of children increased and with the cooperation of the parents who agreed, we moved the practice location to the Kawawa Junior High School Martial Arts Hall and started full-scale karate instruction. As the children’s skills improved as a result of daily practice, we applied to establish a branch of the Japan Karate Association Kanagawa Prefecture Headquarters so that they could change the color of their belts and have fun participating in matches, and in January 2009, Shoshikan was officially established as the Tsuzuki Branch of the Kanagawa Prefecture Headquarters.

My goals and ideas have not changed since I first started teaching karate as a volunteer until now, and I teach with the idea in mind of “What can I teach children now so that they can have a strong spirit and not give in to any difficulties they may face as they grow up healthy in a circle with others?” The membership fees we receive from you are collected as the minimum necessary expenses for running Shoshikan, and we are able to do so thanks to your understanding and cooperation. I would like to create a beloved Shoshikan while enjoying karate with my friends who have worked with me so far and new friends I will meet.
